Privacy Policy

Your trust is our priority. We are committed to protecting your data and privacy.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Byte Password Manager ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. Because Byte is an offline-first password manager, our approach to privacy is fundamentally different from most apps. We do not have access to your passwords.

2. Data Collection & Storage

We do not collect your passwords.

Byte Password Manager is designed to function entirely on your device. All your data—including passwords, usernames, credit card details, and secure notes—is stored locally on your Android phone's internal storage.

  • No Cloud Servers: Your data is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party cloud service.
  • No Account Registration: We do not require an email address, phone number, or account creation to use the app.
  • No Tracking: We do not track your browsing behavior or app usage.

In the unlikely event of a server breach (which we do not use to store your data) or a loss of your device, your data remains secure because it is encrypted locally and only accessible by you via your master password.

3. Security & Encryption

We utilize industry-standard encryption to ensure your data remains secure:

  • AES-256 Encryption: Your vault is encrypted using the AES-256 standard, which is trusted by governments and security experts worldwide.
  • Master Key: The encryption key is derived from your Master Password. We do not know this password, and therefore cannot decrypt your data.
  • Biometric Lock: If you use Fingerprint or Face Unlock, your biometric data is handled by the Android system's secure hardware and is never accessed directly by our app for decryption purposes.

4. Android Permissions

To function correctly, Byte Password Manager may request the following permissions:

  • Biometric/Fingerprint: Used to allow quick access to your vault without typing the master password every time.
  • Camera (Optional): Used only if you choose to scan a QR code or document for a specific feature in the future.
  • Storage: Required to save backups (JSON files) to your device and retrieve them.

We do not access your photos, contacts, or messages.

5. Children’s Privacy

Byte Password Manager is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
